Humble Beginnings

It was back in 2010 that the JUMP craze began. In the past 7 years there have been massive developments to the club and its growth..at times it has been overwhelming. So, where did it all start?

In May 2010 Debi and Laura began providing a one hour gymnastics classes in Cumbernauld a week in a local school which proved popular.  Debi had taken a break from the sport but wanted to start this one hour a week class to keep her hand in the sport. This class was just five children for 6 weeks as a taster session. Very soon with the help of some family members and parents supporting the club it began to grow. Classes had now grown to two days per week in Cumbernauld High School with 4 classes – this meant we needed some extra help/backup from others who love the sport. The reasoning behind choosing the Kildrum and Carbrain area in Cumbernauld was due to the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation identifying small areas of multiple deprivation across all of Scotland in a consistent way. Carbrain was on this list and Debi felt the area was lacking sporting opportunity. The idea behind JUMP was to provide gymnastics classes not only to those who had a natural talent but to all children regardless of their background.

It wasn't long before classes were running 3 days per week with additional interest coming from Moodiesburn area. Classes began in Glenmanor Primary School in Moodiesburn with full classes running on a Monday evenings.

Classes in local schools
Within 3 years the club had found 21b Glencryan Road which was a 2000sq ft Industrial Unit in a local Industrial Estate and began classes in the unit. Very quickly JUMP Gymnastic club transformed from a one hour session a week running out of a local school to running 3 days a week and owning its own gym.

Here is a little then and now comparison to see not only how the club has developed but the kids who have been there from the beginning too!

Rachel and Hannah were one of the first people to join JUMP and are still here today!- although Rachel may have still been just a bump when the initial classes began.

Emily and Leah have also been attending JUMP for many years.
